When you purchase a new vehicle, the parts under the hood should be good to go for thousands of miles. One of the parts you are going to need to keep an eye on from the beginning though is your tires. Your tires, just like the oil in your vehicles, are something you need to keep an eye on from the very beginning.

#1 Check the Tire Pressure

Checking the tire pressure at least once a month should be part of your routine with any vehicle you own, and especially with your new car. You can easily purchase a small tool that allows you to check the pressure of your tires from the comfort of your driveway. If the tire pressure is off, you can add or remove air from your vehicle using an air compressor at home, or you can swing by the dealership and have them adjust the tire pressure in your car. You need to have the right tire pressure to get the best possible grip from your vehicle.

#2 Balance Your Tires

Even new tires need balanced. When your tires are balanced, the mechanic makes sure the weight of your tires is distributed evenly around your vehicle. They make sure that the tires and rims on one side are the same weight as all the other tires. Having everything weigh the same helps with grip and steering. Balancing your tires is a yearly task.

#3 Check Your Alignment

Vehicles get out of alignment due to normal wear and tear on the road. Driving on winter roads, full of cracks and potholes, can lead to your vehicle's alignment being off. Hitting the curb when you are parking can lead to your vehicle's alignment being off. Your vehicle's alignment can quickly change due to normal driving activities. That is why you should take your new car into your dealership and have the vehicle alignment checked at least once a year.

#4 Keep an Eye on the Tread

The life of a tire is based on the number of miles you put on your car. Having your vehicle aligned and balanced can also extend the life of your tires as well. If you are a high-mileage driver, you are going to want to make sure that you keep an eye on your tire tread and change out your tires when they get worn out.

When you purchase a new car, you don't have to worry about too many maintenance issues. You do, however, need to keep an eye on your tires. Be sure to keep the tire pressure at the right level in your tires and get your tires balanced and aligned at least once a year. Watch the tread on your tires and be prepared to change the tires when the tread starts to wear down.
